Saturday, February 19, 2022 (HOL) – Somalia’s Minister of Planning and International Co-operation, Jamal Mohamed Hassan, has said he will take any action that could have dire consequences if his seat is interfered with.

Minister Jamaal, who is currently in Bossaso, said that President Deni’s administration had set up the polling station at Bossaso airport, adding that foreign-funded troops had been deployed there for private use.

“This is not an easy task for a man to set up a tent and do whatever he wants. “It will have far-reaching consequences for those involved and those who support it,” said Minister Jamaal in an interview with BBC Somali Service.

Minister Jamaal said that the clans need to have their seats taken away and they can choose who they want. He made it clear that they are opposed to setting up tents for elections and keeping them away from designated places such as universities and recruiting private individuals.

Minister Jamaal’s statement comes as Puntland President Said Deni left for Bossaso today in connection with the lower house elections.

In Bossaso, 16 seats will be up for grabs in the Bari and Sanaag regions. The rest of the seats were up for grabs in Garowe.
