Saturday, March 19, 2022 (HOL) – Puntland State of Somalia President Said Abdullahi Deni is running for the presidency of Somalia, according to Puntland presidential spokesman Jama Dabarani.
“President Deni stands for the presidency of Somalia, he is a leader who can save our country. Somalia needs the people to vote and peace be upon both of them,” the spokesman said in a statement posted on his Facebook page.
The announcement of President Deni’s candidacy comes hours after he met with Puntland lawmakers in both houses of parliament elected in Puntland.
President Deni has previously been rumored to be running for president of Somalia given his influence on the parliamentary election process.
Deni ran in Somalia’s 2017 elections, but lost, but this is one of the most influential candidates.
