Tuesday, March 22, 2022 (HOL) – Congressman Scott Perry, a member of the US House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee, has submitted a motion to the House of Representatives seeking recognition of Somaliland as an independent state.

Perry, from Pennsylvania, USA, submitted the proposal directly to Congress, and the House of Representatives is expected to vote on it; Perry’s foreign affairs committee has also submitted a bill to the United States seeking diplomatic and security ties with Somaliland.

The move by lawmakers to recognize Somaliland as an independent state follows a 10-day visit by US President Muse Bihi to the United States, and the impact of the Somaliland delegation’s meetings with the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee is evident.

Somaliland is now trying to ally itself with Western countries, which it sees as gaining political, economic and security support, with the Somaliland president taking a delegation of ministers, businessmen and academics for the first time. Heritage Foundation plays a key role in US foreign policy destiny.

Somaliland has said it is targeting international parliaments, which often make decisions about their countries’ policies, and in recent months there has been an increase in proposals from some of the largest Western countries seeking recognition of Somaliland.
