First came the dolls. Then came two movies. And then came a TV show.

Now, “Trolls Live!” is hitting arenas around the country, with five performances at Value City Arena on March 26 and 27.

The show, which is aimed particularly at guests age 4 to through 9, takes off from the world of the Trolls, but doesn’t duplicate the plots of the two movies or the television show.

The traveling show was first introduced in late 2019, but because of the pandemic, only ran for a few months, so this is its first full-scale venture out into the world.

“It’s an all-new adventure that follows a unique storyline. You don’t need to be familiar with the movie or the TV show to follow along with the production,” said Jose Amengual, one of the show’s 14 performers.

Amengual is a “swing” performer in the production, playing several roles. (In order to preserve the magic of the production, performers are not allowed to reveal just which roles they play.)

Popular characters to dazzle young audiences

The production includes multiple characters with whom young audience members are likely to be familiar. Besides the lead characters, perky Poppy and gruff Branch, kids will get to spend time with Cooper, Cloud Guy, Satin and Chenille, Smidge, Guy Diamond, Fuzzbert, Biggie and Mr. Dinkles.

“Every troll is unique,” Amengual said. “Every child will be able to relate to one character or another. One child might gravitate towards Poppy’s optimism and caring nature, or another might gravitate towards Branch’s practicality, or some children might be flashy and fearless like Guy Diamond.”

The show, which runs 70 minutes with an intermission, is designed to give each of these characters an opportunity to shine.
