Stellantis says it expects to lay off nearly 370 workers in Ohio and Indiana because of the UAW strike affecting its Toledo Assembly Complex.

Company spokeswoman Jodi Tinson sent an email Wednesday listing the locations:

“As a consequence of the strike action at the Toledo Assembly Complex (TAC), Stellantis confirms that it will immediately temporarily lay off 68 employees at the Toledo Machining Plant in Perrysburg, Ohio, due to storage constraints. All other production at this facility continues. In addition, we anticipate similar actions at Kokomo Transmission and Kokomo Casting in Kokomo, Indiana, affecting an estimated 300 employees at these two facilities.”

The email noted that “Stellantis continues to closely monitor the impact of the UAW strike action on our manufacturing operations.” Toledo Assembly Complex builds the Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator.

The announcement of the layoffs follows a comment by Mark Stewart, chief operating officer for Stellantis North America, during a media call on Saturday that he did not expect impacts to other facilities because of the situation in Toledo.

A message seeking comment was sent to UAW spokesman Jonah Furman.

The United Auto Workers union launched a targeted, so-called Stand-Up Strike strategy after the expiration of contracts with the Detroit Three automakers on Thursday night. So far, that’s included workers at the Toledo complex and at Ford’s Michigan Assembly in Wayne and GM’s Wentzville Assembly in Missouri, but UAW President Shawn Fain has said the union will announce more strike targets if substantial progress isn’t made by Friday.

Fain was highly critical of similar layoff announcements by Ford and GM involving potentially thousands of workers in Michigan and Kansas.
