Three Columbus police officers are recovering after being struck by vehicles, including a stolen car, on Wednesday night.

The crashes happened around 11:35 p.m. Wednesday.

Columbus police said the first crash happened after officers had gone to the 1300 block of Coburg Road for a reported disturbance involving two cars and a group of juveniles. Officers who had gone to the scene saw a car on Seabrook Avenue that did not have its headlights on.

The officers tried to stop that vehicle but the driver fled, ultimately stopping on Picard Road at a dead end.

Police said the officers got out of their cruiser and a passenger in the vehicle ran on foot, but was taken into custody behind a home. The driver attempted to drive away, hitting one of the officers.

The vehicle was found near Picard Road and Seabrook Avenue. The driver had run away from the vehicle on foot.

That vehicle, which was not identified by make or model, was later determined to have been stolen, police said. The passenger who was taken into custody is 14 years old.

The officer who was struck was taken to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in stable condition and treated for minor injuries.

In the second crash, around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers saw a silver Hyundai run a red light on East 5th Avenue approaching Interstate 670 near John Glenn Columbus International Airport.

Police said the Hyundai struck a cruiser with two officers in it after running the red light, then fled the scene toward Stelzer Road. Both of those officers were taken to Ohio State University Hospital East for treatment of minor injuries. Both of those officers have since been released.
